Debra Bertz

On the evening of October 28, 2003, Deborah Bertz, the president and co-founder of AB Solutions, passed away. Deb was a great friend. We will all miss her very much.

Debie worked in the areas of automation and accounting for over twenty years. She started in construction accounting and came to the agency environment in 1986. She was an Agency Controller for eight years, and has been consulting full-time since 1994. Her primary consulting focus is agency accounting. Insurance accounting is a unique specialty, the intricacies of which are not often recognized.

Debie worked with the agency personnel to familiarize them with the principles of insurance accounting, the specifics of their agency software, and development of solid accounting procedures. Given the large sums of money generally present within the agency environment, it is essential that appropriate checks and balances be in place to protect it. A common problem for agencies is that few CPAs really understand insurance accounting. That lack of experience can inadvertently sabotage an agency's ability to keep subsidiary journals in balance. Debie's combination of agency and accounting experience enabled her to articulate the issues and concerns for both agency and the CPA.

Her distinctive voice and effective leadership guided the Los Angeles Area Users Group of Applied Systems (WUGAS) from 1998-2003. She served as President, Treasurer, and Executive Director.
